Pony AI and Uber announced plans to significantly scale their robotaxi fleet across Europe, targeting deployment of over 2,000 autonomous vehicles in five cities. This expansion follows the recent launch of Europe’s first commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, which integrates Pony AI’s Level 4 autonomous driving technology into Uber’s mobility platform.
The partnership leverages Pony AI’s expertise in self-driving operations and rider experience, while Uber provides access to its global booking, payment, and customer service infrastructure. Users in the expanded areas will be able to hail Pony AI robotaxis directly through the Uber app, offering a seamless autonomous ride-hailing experience.
Local partners will manage daily fleet operations, allowing flexible arrangements for vehicle ownership and funding tailored to each market. This decentralized approach aims to streamline rapid replication across new cities. Beyond Europe, the companies also plan to extend robotaxi services into the Middle East as part of this broader initiative.
The collaboration between Pony AI and Uber began in 2025 with intentions to integrate autonomous vehicles into the Uber platform internationally. Earlier this year, a joint service launched in Zagreb in partnership with the Croatian mobility company Verne, which operates the local fleet.
This development aligns with Uber’s expanding autonomous ambitions, which include a recent partnership with Wayve Technologies to run supervised robotaxis in London and a separate self-driving pilot with Baidu. At the same time, competitors like WeRide and Momenta are advancing their own European expansions, signaling increased regional competition in robotaxi deployment.
Pony AI plans to release its quarterly financial results soon, coinciding with industry momentum from resumed autonomous vehicle licensing following a recent safety review. These regulatory developments may facilitate further scaling of such services across key urban centers.
