President Trump declared that the United States is committed to winning its confrontation with Iran, either through military means or a negotiated agreement. While he expressed no initial desire to meet Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, Trump left open the possibility of a face-to-face meeting if a peace deal comes to fruition.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump emphasized the certainty of American success in the ongoing conflict, stating the outcome would be decided "militarily or on paper." He acknowledged that while he doesn’t want to meet Khamenei, a formal agreement could lead to a respectful encounter between the two leaders.
Meanwhile, tensions remain high as Iran’s top adviser, Mohsen Rezaei, criticized the currently proposed memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities. Rezaei pointed to unresolved ambiguities within the draft and accused Washington of deliberately keeping Tehran’s demands unclear. This challenges the fragile negotiation process and undermines progress toward peace.
The broader diplomatic effort is further complicated by recent developments on the ground. Hezbollah rejected a cease-fire agreement in Lebanon, and Israel has insisted it will not withdraw forces from the country. These moves risk derailing the US-Iran peace initiative by escalating regional instability.
Trump also issued a warning that US military operations could resume if Iranian attacks target American troops during the existing cease-fire period. This statement follows a series of air strikes and counterstrikes between Iran and US forces, including a recent Iranian attack on Kuwait’s international airport that killed one and injured dozens.
Amid these confrontations, Trump claimed the US possesses surveillance capabilities on Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium—material that could potentially be used in nuclear weapons development. He insisted that this uranium is "entombed" and monitored with cameras, signaling Washington’s readiness to act if necessary, though he stated there is no immediate need.
