Constellation and Amazon have finalized a 20-year power purchase agreement to deliver an additional 190 megawatts of nuclear energy generated at the Calvert Cliffs facility. This pact represents a significant infusion of low-carbon power to support Amazon’s commitment to sustainability and clean energy usage.
The new capacity will come from an expansion at Calvert Cliffs, a nuclear power plant that already supplies low-emission electricity to the regional grid. This deal aligns with Amazon’s broader strategy to source more renewable and carbon-free energy as part of its climate pledge to reach net-zero carbon emissions.
Constellation, a major clean energy producer, will manage the operations and delivery of power throughout the contract period. The agreement highlights nuclear energy’s role as a stable, dependable source of zero-carbon electricity, complementing intermittent renewables such as wind and solar. It marks a collaborative effort by a leading utility and a global technology company to incorporate advanced nuclear-generated power into their energy portfolios.
This long-term commitment is expected to help maintain energy reliability while directly contributing to emissions reduction targets. By locking in nuclear-generated power, Amazon ensures a steady supply of clean energy to support its expansive cloud infrastructure and other business operations.
