Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid out a sweeping vision for India’s economic and energy future, focusing on significant expansion in nuclear power capabilities and strengthening the country’s role in global business. Speaking during the Independence Day address, Modi emphasized the goal of achieving 100 gigawatts of nuclear energy capacity by 2047, supported by the commissioning of five new nuclear reactors within the next six to seven years.

Highlighting a breakthrough in Fast Breeder Nuclear Technology, the Prime Minister said India reached a critical milestone that advances the nation toward self-reliance in nuclear fuel production. This development marks a strategic shift toward greater energy independence and underpins the ambitious nuclear expansion plans.

On the industrial front, Modi called for a robust increase in India’s corporate global stature, aiming for 50 Indian companies to feature in the Fortune 500 list. Additionally, he expressed a vision for an Indian bank to secure a position among the world’s top five financial institutions, signaling a drive to elevate India’s financial and commercial influence.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of expanding semiconductor manufacturing, targeting the establishment of seven to eight new fabrication plants within the next one to two years. This push aligns with India’s intent to dominate technology value chains, moving from component production to full-scale design and manufacturing hubs, thereby becoming a trusted part of the global supply network.

Energy infrastructure improvements beyond nuclear were stressed as well. Modi pointed to the rapid growth in piped gas infrastructure, which expanded from coverage in just 70 cities to 700 cities since 2014. The number of households accessing piped gas surged from about two million to nearly seventeen million. Solar energy capacity also experienced a dramatic rise—from 2 gigawatts in 2014 to 160 gigawatts—with over five million households adopting solar solutions under government schemes.

To fuel this multifaceted growth, the Prime Minister introduced the 'Sapta Dhara' concept—seven streams of strength designed to propel India’s progress and help realize the vision of a developed nation. These pillars provide a framework for innovation, industrial growth, and sustainable development that underpin his administration’s economic agenda.
