SAIC Motor’s MG brand announced the upcoming pre-sale of its latest model, the MG 07, a coupe sedan designed to appeal to younger consumers in China. Pre-sales will start on July 29, positioning the vehicle as an intelligent and sporty electric vehicle (EV) option for the mainstream market.
The MG 07 stands out as MG’s first vehicle to integrate LiDAR technology, enhancing its smart driving capabilities through the advanced R7 world model solution developed by Chinese startup Momenta. This marks a significant step for the brand in offering intelligent driving systems as a core feature. The car’s design also targets youth with its distinctive purple color, fastback hatchback styling, frameless doors, and semi-hidden handles, emphasizing individuality and modern appeal.
Manufactured at SAIC Passenger Vehicle’s Zhengzhou plant—which recently celebrated its 3 millionth vehicle—the MG 07 is built on SAIC’s next-generation new energy vehicle platform. The model is available in both pure-electric and plug-in hybrid variants. The pure-electric version houses a 67-kilowatt-hour battery pack, delivering two ranges of approximately 650 and 610 kilometers under China’s CLTC testing cycle. The plug-in hybrid option features a 30-kilowatt-hour battery with a WLTC-rated pure-electric range of 185 kilometers, powered by a 1.5-liter engine paired with a 152-kilowatt electric motor. The internal combustion engine produces 82 kilowatts, complementing the motor’s 204 horsepower.
The MG 07 measures nearly 4.9 meters long, 1.9 meters wide, and 1.5 meters tall, with a 2.8-meter wheelbase. Its design elements and intelligent driving package aim to capture consumers seeking both style and advanced technology in an affordable EV.
MG’s current EV portfolio includes the MG4 hatchback, priced from roughly 65,800 yuan after subsidies, and the Sports-oriented MG Cyberster convertible, which carries a higher price tag. The brand has also introduced the MG 4X, a pure-electric SUV equipped with a semi-solid-state battery, highlighting SAIC’s broad commitment to advanced EV technologies across segments.
