Electric vehicle production in the United States has expanded well beyond a few niche facilities, with several enormous manufacturing campuses emerging across the country. These plants combine large physical footprints and high annual output to meet rising EV demand, often integrating vehicle assembly with battery production. This growth signals a pivotal shift in American automotive manufacturing toward electrification on an unprecedented scale.

Among the biggest dedicated EV factories is Hyundai’s sprawling complex near Savannah, Georgia. Covering roughly 7.5 million square feet, this highly automated campus is designed to produce up to 500,000 electric vehicles yearly across Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands. It also includes nearby battery production facilities, reinforcing Hyundai’s integrated approach to electrification in the U.S.

California hosts Tesla’s Fremont Factory, a cornerstone of EV manufacturing since its conversion from a former conventional auto plant. This facility supports multiple Tesla models and maintains an annual capacity of approximately 515,000 vehicles, making it one of the highest-output electric vehicle plants nationwide despite Tesla’s newer factories elsewhere.

Ford’s BlueOval City in Tennessee exemplifies the shift toward vertically integrated EV production. Spanning nearly six square miles, this campus is planned to host electric truck assembly, battery manufacturing, and an extensive supplier park. Ford describes it as one of the largest automotive manufacturing sites in U.S. history, aiming to consolidate the full electric vehicle supply chain in one location.

Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas also plays an outsized role in EV production. Covering over 10 million square feet near Austin, this complex produces vehicles like the Model Y and Cybertruck, alongside battery and advanced component manufacturing. It boasts a production capacity of roughly 375,000 vehicles per year, positioning it as a critical global Tesla hub.

Other major players include Lucid’s Advanced Manufacturing Plant (AMP-1) in Arizona, supporting luxury EV production. Though smaller by scale than some competitors, Lucid’s facility is vital for the company's U.S. EV ambitions. Together, these campuses represent a national network transforming how electric vehicles are made in America.
