Paraguay has reinforced its diplomatic bond with Israel through a series of symbolic gestures and expanding economic ties, underlining its commitment by maintaining its embassy in Jerusalem since December 2024. The recent celebration of Paraguay's Independence Day in Jerusalem highlighted this evolving partnership, with high-level Israeli officials and diplomats attending alongside Paraguay’s ambassador.
The event drew parallels between Paraguay’s independence in 1811 and Israel’s founding in 1948, coinciding with Jerusalem Day, underscoring shared values of sovereignty and national identity. This connection reflects Paraguay’s deliberate effort to express friendship not only through formal relations but also by actively engaging in trade and cooperation.
Trade relations have accelerated markedly, especially in the agro-industry sector. Paraguayan beef exports to Israel have surged, nearly doubling from past figures and showing potential to exceed $300 million this year if trends continue. Beyond meat exports, Paraguay positions itself as an attractive destination for Israeli investment in multiple sectors including energy, water management, technology, logistics, and services, signaling growing economic integration.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar praised Paraguay as a “stable friend” and encouraged other nations to consider relocating their embassies to Jerusalem, citing examples like Fiji and potential plans by Somaliland. Paraguay’s clear diplomatic stance comes at a time when Israel’s alliances face scrutiny in international forums, with Paraguay opting for a visible and assertive partnership.
