The Telangana government intends to merge the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) fully with the state administration, but only after recognizing trade union elections and engaging with elected representatives. This process aims to ensure smooth integration and address employee concerns without disputes.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar revealed that elections for the official TGSRTC trade union will be organized soon. Following these elections, the government plans to carry out the merger after thorough discussions with union leaders. The minister emphasized precautions to prevent conflicts and called on RTC employees to drop any misconceptions about the transition.
Under the guidance of the Deputy Chief Minister, a committee comprising five ministers, senior officials, and forty RTC representatives recently convened. Their deliberations resulted in approval for an 11 percent pay revision for RTC employees, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving worker welfare amid restructuring.
Alongside the merger, the government is advancing infrastructure projects, including accelerating construction of a new RTC bus depot in Peddapalli district headquarters. Minister Prabhakar, joined by the IT, Industries and Legislative Affairs Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Government Whip Vijaya Ramana Rao, inspected the site, confirming efforts to fast-track its completion. The depot’s inauguration is imminent, supported by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s approval following local leaders’ requests.
The Transport Minister also highlighted initiatives to boost rural bus connectivity, noting heightened demand after the launch of a free bus travel scheme for women. Procurement of new RTC buses is in progress to meet increasing public needs, indicating the state’s broader strategy to strengthen public transportation.
