Nissan has unveiled the 2027 Rogue Hybrid, a new variant that blends hybrid technology with an electric-vehicle feel through its e-Power system. This setup departs from conventional hybrids by relying on a dedicated electric motor to drive the wheels, while a gasoline engine solely charges the battery.
The key innovation of the Rogue Hybrid is its elimination of a traditional transmission. Instead, the vehicle uses a single electric motor for propulsion, offering seamless acceleration and the immediate response typical of electric vehicles. This design simplifies the drivetrain and aims to enhance driving smoothness.
Performance-wise, the Rogue Hybrid targets a fuel economy rating of up to 38 miles per gallon. The e-Power system allows the gasoline engine to operate at optimal efficiency since it no longer directly powers the wheels, reducing fuel consumption and emissions compared to standard hybrid layouts.
This hybrid variant integrates with Nissan’s existing Rogue lineup, adding a more efficient and electrified option without fully moving to a battery electric vehicle. The strategy seeks to bridge the gap for consumers interested in electric driving dynamics without committing to full EV infrastructure.
Adopting the e-Power system reflects a broader trend in the automotive industry, where manufacturers explore hybrids that deliver tangible electric performance benefits while extending range and reducing charging demands. Nissan's approach highlights its commitment to electrification that fits various driving needs.
