Evanston will begin a comprehensive street resurfacing and infrastructure upgrade project on seven segments throughout the city over the coming 12 weeks. The improvements will address roadway surfaces, curb repairs and replacements, sewer system maintenance, base repairs, and selected upgrades to sidewalks, driveway aprons, and ADA accessibility features.
The city is funding the project through its Motor Fuel Tax allocation, ensuring that residents living on affected streets will not bear any direct costs. Work will proceed in two distinct phases, with Phase 1 slated to start during the week of June 8 and expected to finish by mid-July. The entire project aims for substantial completion by the end of August, followed by final sod restoration.
During construction, temporary daytime no-parking restrictions will be implemented intermittently in active work zones. These restrictions will be communicated through signs posted at least 48 hours in advance. Overnight parking between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. will remain available. To ease the inconvenience caused by parking limits, street sweeping and neighborhood parking restrictions will be suspended within a one-block radius of the work area whenever daytime no-parking rules apply.
The contractor responsible for the project is Bigane Paving Co., based in Chicago. The City’s Capital Planning & Engineering Bureau manages the project, with Resident Engineer Nathan Savino overseeing field operations. Residents can reach Mr. Savino directly with construction concerns. For broader questions about the street resurfacing initiative, the city provides contact details for Senior Project Manager Sat Nagar.
