The United States is reportedly close to securing a nuclear agreement with Iran, though President Donald Trump warned that military intervention remains a viable option should negotiations fail. Speaking from the White House in an interview, Trump highlighted his administration’s goal of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons by any means.
Trump revealed that Iran has agreed to language prohibiting not only the development but also the purchase of nuclear arms, addressing previous concerns that Tehran might acquire weapons from external sources. He described the negotiations as challenging but noted progress has been steady, with American negotiators pushing for enforceable commitments.
Despite a preference for a diplomatic solution, Trump made clear that the US would resort to force if the deal does not adequately protect national interests. He stressed that any agreement must guarantee Iran remains nuclear-weapon-free and that key regional waterways, especially the Strait of Hormuz, remain open without tolls or restrictions. Trump dismissed suggestions that upcoming elections influence his decisions, emphasizing that policy will be based on national security priorities.
