OpenAI is preparing its largest ChatGPT update to date, aiming to evolve the AI chatbot into a versatile “superapp” that seamlessly combines productivity features, coding capabilities, and third-party integrations. This substantial redesign is part of a strategic shift to increase revenue by targeting enterprise clients and expanding beyond basic conversational AI.
The revamped ChatGPT interface will guide users more actively toward specialized functionalities such as OpenAI’s coding product Codex, AI-powered image generation, and embedded partner services. Partners mentioned include well-known platforms like Canva and Booking.com, which will be integrated within the ChatGPT environment. These changes are slated to appear first on both ChatGPT’s web and mobile apps in the coming weeks.
This overhaul reflects OpenAI’s intensified competition with peers like Anthropic and a focus on monetizing its growing user base. Currently, ChatGPT serves over 900 million weekly active users worldwide, with more than 50 million paid subscribers. Business clients, who largely use Codex, contribute nearly 40 percent of the company’s revenue—a share expected to rise close to 50 percent by year’s end.
The move comes as OpenAI explores a potential initial public offering in the U.S., though CEO Sam Altman has said that any stock market debut will depend on strategic timing. The redesign signals OpenAI’s ambition to position ChatGPT not merely as an AI assistant but as an integrated ecosystem combining communication, programming, and commercial services under one roof.
