Samsung Health users now face a critical decision amid the app’s recent redesign: either consent to their health data being utilized for artificial intelligence training or risk having their data deleted and losing synchronization across devices. The new consent notice makes clear that without user approval, the app will stop syncing data and proceed to erase stored health information.

The data involved covers a wide range of personal health metrics, from step counts, sleep patterns, and medication tracking to more sensitive information like menstrual cycle details, full health records, treatment history, and test results. Samsung states that this extensive data will be processed, including human reviews, to improve AI algorithms aimed at analyzing health conditions and enhancing Samsung Health’s features.

Users who opt out through the app’s settings receive a warning that their health data will be deleted unless legal requirements mandate retention, in which case Samsung will erase the data after the mandated period ends. This measure signals a shift in Samsung Health’s approach as it leans heavily into AI-powered capabilities coinciding with the upcoming launch of the Galaxy Watch 9.
