Florida stands out as a prime destination for summer job seekers, with three of its cities—Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Tampa—earning high marks in a national WalletHub study on seasonal employment prospects. Fort Lauderdale secured a top-10 spot, demonstrating a particularly strong youth job market and affordability metrics.
WalletHub analyzed 182 major U.S. metropolitan areas using 21 factors, including employment outlook, median part-time wages, social environment, and job friendliness. Fort Lauderdale ranked eighth overall with a score just over 55, placing it 12th for youth job opportunities and 14th for affordability and social environment. Orlando followed closely at tenth, buoyed by its concentration of tourist attractions and theme parks, ranking 18th in youth job market strength and 11th in affordability and social factors.
Tampa also featured prominently, landing in the top 25 cities nationally with a 23rd-place ranking. Its youth job market stood lower at 42nd, but the city’s balance of affordability and social environment earned it a 29th-place spot. In addition, four other Florida metros—St. Petersburg, Miami, Pembroke Pines, and Cape Coral—ranked within the top 100, reflecting the state’s broad appeal for seasonal work.
The study’s lead analyst noted that the summer job outlook remains positive nationwide, driven by ongoing labor shortages that could lead employers to raise wages. Beyond pay, the best summer job markets also offer manageable commutes and engaging activities outside work hours, factors that contribute to the overall desirability of these cities for young workers.
