Kazakhstan and China are advancing their comprehensive strategic partnership as both countries highlight growing economic cooperation and political coordination. Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that bilateral trade reached a new high last year, with total trade volume hitting a record $49 billion. This milestone underscores the increasing interdependence between the two nations.
Chinese investments continue to play a crucial role in Kazakhstan’s economy, totaling over $29 billion. President Tokayev pointed to the recently ratified Agreement on the Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investments as a key framework to boost future investment flows and deepen cooperation across various sectors.
Both leaders discussed the broadening of political collaboration, noting joint efforts in major international and regional organizations such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA). Kazakhstan also emphasized its support for the “One China” policy, reaffirming alignment with China’s core diplomatic stance.
China’s Representative Zhao Leji described the relationship as a “permanent comprehensive strategic partnership,” highlighting steady advancements. Zhao also acknowledged Kazakhstan’s recent constitutional referendum as an important development step, congratulating the country on the successful vote.
