President Trump used a social media post about Rudy Giuliani's hospitalization to launch a broad attack on Democrats on Sunday evening. Giuliani, 81, was admitted to a Florida hospital in critical but stable condition, according to a statement from his spokesperson Ted Goodman.

Trump's post on Truth Social praised Giuliani as "a True Warrior" and "the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR." He then pivoted to criticism, writing that "what a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!" Trump went on to accuse Democrats of cheating in elections, fabricating stories, and attempting to destroy the nation.

Goodman did not disclose which hospital Giuliani had entered or the reason for his hospitalization. He characterized the former mayor as "a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength" and said he was fighting with that same strength.

Giuliani served as New York City mayor from 1994 to 2001 and became known as "America's Mayor" following his leadership during the September 11 terror attacks near the end of his second term. Time magazine named him "Person of the Year" in recognition of his response to the attacks. In Trump's first presidency, Giuliani served as the president's personal attorney and became a prominent figure in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Last year, Giuliani reached a confidential settlement in a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit filed against him by Dominion Voting Systems. The company had alleged that he spread "defamatory falsehoods" about it following the 2020 election.
