Verkada, a leading provider of cloud-managed security solutions, has strengthened its technological edge through a new investment and collaboration with Nvidia. This partnership aims to enhance the artificial intelligence that powers Verkada’s platform, which currently operates across 2.4 million connected devices globally.
The investment amount was not disclosed, but it follows Verkada’s recent funding round that valued the company at $5.8 billion. Verkada’s integrated security offerings—encompassing cameras, door access, alarms, environmental sensors, and intercoms—serve tens of thousands of organizations across 170 countries, including prominent members of the Fortune 500.
Central to this collaboration are two Nvidia technologies: the Cosmos family of foundation models and the Physical AI Data Factory toolkit. The Cosmos models provide advanced AI frameworks, while the Data Factory generates synthetic video data to improve training accuracy for AI models. Verkada integrates both tools to refine video search functions, enabling rapid identification of specific people, objects, or events among extensive recorded footage.
This integration has yielded significant improvements in AI performance. For instance, one benchmark measuring spatial-temporal query accuracy—used to locate particular moments or movements—has improved by 68% since implementing Nvidia’s technology. Verkada is also developing a multi-model search agent capable of combining inputs from various AI models to better analyze complex real-world scenarios.
Beyond search, Verkada is experimenting with reasoning AI designed to interpret scenes contextually rather than relying solely on object recognition. This advancement targets practical safety and security challenges, including detecting safety incidents on factory floors and identifying theft in retail environments.
Nvidia has aggressively pursued partnerships with companies that apply its advanced models and hardware to real-world physical environments, especially those involving robotics, autonomous vehicles, and manufacturing. Verkada’s extensive repository of camera data and industry presence aligns closely with Nvidia’s strategic goals in these markets.
The collaboration also marks a milestone as Verkada recently surpassed $1 billion in annualized bookings, a signal of rapid growth. However, the company still faces scrutiny over security, recalling a significant 2021 breach where hackers accessed live feeds from approximately 150,000 cameras deployed in sensitive locations such as hospitals and schools.
