Electronic Arts is undergoing another round of layoffs affecting various units, including recruitment, IT, customer support, and the team responsible for player relations and community safety. The exact number of employees impacted remains unclear, but reports indicate both U.S.-based remote workers and experienced staff in Hyderabad, India, are among those affected.
This personnel reduction follows two earlier major cuts this year targeting the developers of Skate and the Battlefield 6 team. The layoffs come as EA seeks to reorganize to “better meet fans’ changing needs,” as detailed in an internal email obtained by Kotaku. It explains that some roles are being eliminated or relocated, new roles are being created, and certain responsibilities are shifting to different teams, locations, or external service partners.
The layoffs unfold against the backdrop of EA’s recent acquisition by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s state investment fund, supported by a substantial loan. The acquisition has drawn scrutiny from union representatives and U.S. lawmakers critical of Saudi Arabia's human rights record and the influence of its investment activities. This restructuring ties into broader corporate efforts to manage costs, including an emphasis on emerging technologies like generative AI, though the feasibility of cutting expenses significantly through AI remains debated.
Among the departures confirmed is Diana Cornejo, a former lead recruiter who announced her exit after nearly eight years at the company. EA declined to comment on the reports when contacted.
