Kyiv endured a severe and sustained attack overnight as Russian forces targeted the Ukrainian capital with ballistic and cruise missiles alongside drone strikes. The assault killed at least 13 residents and wounded 86 others, shaking the city with continuous explosions and forcing many civilians to seek refuge in metro stations.

The damage spanned more than 30 locations throughout Kyiv, affecting numerous residential areas and vital civilian infrastructure. According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, 20 residential buildings were damaged, including multiple multi-story apartment complexes. Fires erupted on rooftops and in private homes across several districts, and at least one building partially collapsed following the bombardment.

Rescue teams deployed nearly 500 emergency personnel and 100 specialized vehicles, including helicopters, to manage the aftermath and aid trapped residents. In one instance, people were trapped inside a damaged nine-story building in the Desnianskyi district, prompting urgent rescue operations. Fires broke out in the Holosiivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts, with debris obstructing access to victims.

The mayor of Kyiv appealed to citizens to remain in shelters amid the ongoing offensive described as a “furious enemy attack.” He highlighted the critical condition of a paramedic injured during the strikes. The Emergency Service confirmed damage to residential buildings, hotels, and other civilian facilities across multiple districts, including Shevchenkivskyi and Darnytskyi, where a nine-story building partially collapsed.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister called on international partners to accelerate the provision of air defense systems and missile supplies, condemning the attack as unprovoked aggression. He emphasized Ukraine’s right to self-defense under international law amid Russia’s intensified campaign targeting Kyiv despite ongoing Ukrainian counterstrikes against Russian military and energy targets. The rescue effort continues as authorities expect the death toll to rise.
