MoonPay, a cryptocurrency payments network, announced the launch of MoonAgents Card, a virtual Mastercard debit card designed to enable both users and AI agents to spend stablecoins directly from onchain balances. The card performs automatic crypto-to-fiat conversion at purchase, making it accessible at any online retailer globally that accepts Mastercard. The product represents a collaboration between MoonPay's AI agent infrastructure, Monavate's regulated card issuing capabilities, and Mastercard's payments network.
The card addresses a gap in existing stablecoin debit card offerings. While such products already exist, MoonAgents Card was built specifically for AI agents that participate in digital commerce. Unlike competing products requiring users to pre-load custodial balances or move funds offchain before spending, MoonAgents Card allows users to authorize agents to spend directly from self-custodial wallets at the moment of transaction.
Ivan Soto-Wright, CEO and Founder of MoonPay, stated that agents are already managing wallets and executing trades onchain but lacked the ability to spend at merchants. "AI agents are going to transact constantly, at machine speed, across millions of merchants," he said. JP Richardson, CEO and Co-founder of Exodus, noted that the card extends self-custodial wallet infrastructure to agents, enabling them to spend from onchain wallets without requiring new wallet designs.
The card functions by linking a self-custodial wallet to a Mastercard virtual payment card through Monavate's infrastructure. At the moment of purchase, users authorize a smart contract to access their stablecoin balance. Monavate then executes the onchain funding and card authorization in real time. If a transaction is declined, funds return to the wallet immediately. Wallet custody remains with the user throughout the process, and approvals can be revoked at any time.
MoonPay CLI, the developer command-line interface for crypto payments, has processed more than 4 million tool calls since its launch. The platform's growth has accelerated notably—the first million tool calls took 30 days, while the second million took seven days. MoonAgents Card extends MoonPay's broader AI-native financial infrastructure, which includes MoonPay Agents for autonomous AI workflows with hardware-secured signing and the Open Wallet Standard, launched in March with backing from 15 organizations including the Ethereum Foundation, Solana Foundation, and PayPal.
MoonAgents Card is available today in the United Kingdom and Latin America through MoonPay CLI. Availability in the United States and European Union is planned for the coming months. Identity verification is required before card issuance.
