Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) has finalized cooperation agreements totaling approximately $400 million with multiple Chinese partners during a business forum in Shanghai. These contracts pave the way for enhanced collaboration across transport logistics, digital infrastructure, and maritime development between the two countries.
The agreements, some denominated in Chinese yuan and Kazakh tenge, outline a strategic partnership that covers a broad scope of initiatives, including IT infrastructure upgrades, port and terminal logistics improvements, and shipbuilding projects. This demonstrates KTZ’s commitment to modernizing and expanding its transport capabilities while deepening ties with Chinese industry leaders.
Among the key signatories are China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd, Sichuan Port and Shipping Investment Group Co., and Lianyungang Port Group Co., which will jointly work on optimizing regional logistics and expanding maritime infrastructure. Additionally, a contract with Jiangsu Haizhongzhou Shipping Industry Co. focuses on advancing shipbuilding efforts as part of this cooperation.
KTZ also inked deals with COSCO Shipping Container Lines and China Railway Container Transport to boost freight management and increase cargo transit capacity on international routes. These efforts aim to facilitate smoother cross-border trade and expand the throughput of Kazakhstan’s transport corridors connecting with China.
Digital transformation forms a critical pillar of this collaboration, with technology partnerships secured with Global DTC Kazakhstan Ltd., NIZE Intelligent Technology Co., and Huawei Technologies Kazakhstan. These agreements aim to accelerate the digitalization of transport management practices, improving efficiency and transparency across the bilateral logistics network.
KTZ expects that implementing these agreements will streamline border operations, enhance regional connectivity, and support ongoing infrastructure projects critical for trade growth between Kazakhstan and China. The cooperative package reflects both nations’ shared focus on integrating innovative technologies and scaling up comprehensive transport solutions in the region.
