Officials from Uzbekistan and China met to discuss the advancement of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan (CKU) railway, highlighting that construction is progressing on schedule. The project is positioned as a pivotal infrastructure initiative for Central Asia’s transport connectivity and economic integration.
The meeting involved Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, and Wang Jinxi, deputy chairman of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. Both parties underlined the railway’s significance for developing regional transport corridors, boosting international freight volumes, and deepening trade and economic ties across the region.
Discussions extended to improving the competitiveness and efficiency of the existing multimodal corridor that links China through Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan. One key logistical improvement considered was granting the Kashgar border railway station an “export” status, aimed at simplifying customs clearance and cargo handling procedures for smoother transit operations.
In conclusion, the delegations agreed to implement a regular monitoring system for construction progress and to enhance collaboration within the transport sector. They also committed to maintaining close coordination on all joint logistics efforts to ensure the project’s successful completion and operational integration.
