The Pentagon is deploying a new artificial intelligence system called Agent Network designed to shorten the time between intelligence gathering and commander decision-making in battle operations. Developed under the Department of War’s Artificial Intelligence Acceleration Strategy, this AI-enabled platform continuously monitors defense intelligence and operational data to provide structured options to commanders within seconds.

Agent Network operates as the second Pace-Setting Project (PSP 2) in the department’s broader AI initiative. Its primary goal is to speed up the translation of battlefield intelligence into actionable decisions while ensuring that final targeting authority remains with human operators. The system will undergo comprehensive testing and operational evaluation to guarantee compliance with U.S. legal and ethical standards, focusing on accountability, precision, and minimizing collateral damage.

The department’s chief digital and AI officer emphasized that Agent Network combines the strengths of established defense technology firms with emerging innovators, building an interoperable AI agent network that enhances situational awareness and decision speed. This effort reflects the commitment to introducing AI capabilities that operate at scale while maintaining strict human control over critical warfighting decisions.

PSP 2, the framework behind the Agent Network, unites leading frontier AI companies and new technology providers. It supports ongoing command and control modernization by enabling AI orchestration across multiple defense systems. This announcement follows recent efforts to incorporate cutting-edge AI into mission-critical operations, including the selection of companies for related AI projects focusing on swarm technologies and digital engineering.

This summer, the Potomac Officers Club will host DOW summits that further explore the impact of AI, autonomy, and defense modernization. These events will feature discussions with military and industry leaders on how AI and machine learning reshape mission execution, plus advancements in commercial space and network modernization. Interested parties can register to attend the 2026 Air and Space Summit and the 2026 Navy Summit scheduled in July and August.
