Alpine is developing an electric version of its A110 sports car that prioritizes low weight and spirited handling, signaling a determined effort to preserve the character of its combustion-engine predecessor in an EV format. The new A110 EV will debut as a prototype named the A110 Future, which the company plans to showcase at a major motorsport event in 2026.

Central to Alpine’s approach is a split battery pack architecture, which positions battery cells both in the front and rear of the car rather than in a typical skateboard layout under the floor. This design enables the A110 EV to maintain a rear-weight bias near 40:60, a balance crucial to the mid-engined sports car’s responsive and playful driving dynamics, especially its oversteer behavior around corners.

The electric A110 will build on an all-new 800-volt platform called the Alpine Performance Platform, featuring advanced technology such as cell-to-pack batteries and lightweight aluminum suspension components. The cell-to-pack design integrates battery cells directly into the pack, reducing weight and size, though it may complicate repairs since modular replacements are limited.

Power will come from an innovative rear e-axle equipped with two electric motors controlled by a silicon-carbide inverter. This dual-motor layout with torque vectoring will allow Alpine to distribute power precisely across the rear wheels, aiming to create a driving experience that is not only efficient but also dynamic and engaging—mirroring the handling traits of the conventional A110.

Alpine emphasized that maintaining a low center of gravity and classic sports car weight distribution remains a priority, even as the overall weight will inevitably increase compared to earlier combustion versions, which were famously lightweight. The company also plans to introduce integrated braking and steering systems designed to complement the new electric architecture.

The launch of the A110 EV represents the third generation of the model, following the original 1963 version and the modern 2017 iteration. Alpine is positioning this electric sports car as a genuine successor that refuses to compromise on the brand’s hallmark agility and driver engagement, despite the challenges posed by electrification.
