The 2026 Jeep Recon EV, Jeep’s fully electric off-road SUV, is now available for purchase with a starting price just under $67,000. While delivering impressive power and terrain-handling features, the vehicle’s EPA-estimated driving range has turned out lower than anticipated, raising questions about its practical appeal for everyday use.

Jeep’s electric Trail Rated SUV comes exclusively in the Moab trim, featuring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with 650 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. This setup enables acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3.6 seconds, positioning it as a strong performer within the electric off-road segment. The Recon is built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform and includes upgraded electric drive modules, especially in the rear, designed for precise torque distribution across challenging terrain.

Despite early estimates suggesting a range of up to 250 miles, the EPA now rates the Recon Moab at 222 miles per charge. The battery pack capacity is 100 kWh, and although the range falls short of the original forecast, Jeep emphasizes this as the first fully electric Trail Rated SUV available. Charging infrastructure supports fast recharge capabilities, with a 5% to 80% charge achievable in roughly 28 minutes and 100 miles added in about 10 minutes.

Designed for rugged use, the Recon offers 9.1 inches of ground clearance and rides on 33-inch tires. Its off-road readiness is enhanced by Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system, which includes five selectable drive modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand, and Rock—the latter exclusive to the Moab edition. The vehicle also retains signature Jeep features like removable doors and swing-gate rear glass, echoing the design philosophy of the Wrangler.

The cabin incorporates over 26 inches of screen real estate, combining a 12.3-inch digital driver cluster with a 14.5-inch infotainment display, blending modern technology with a utilitarian interior. Jeep introduced the Recon EV first in the US and Canada, priced in Canada at approximately CAD 88,285, with plans to expand availability to Europe, the UK, and other markets.

The launch arrives amid broader doubts about Stellantis’ electrification agenda, which recently underwent significant revisions. While the Recon EV showcases the brand’s dedication to electrified off-road vehicles, its price point and range compel a closer look at how Jeep will balance capability, cost, and electric performance in the future.
