India’s Ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, engaged in high-level talks with Quanzhou Party Secretary Zhang Yigong, focusing on deepening bilateral cooperation across commercial, investment, and cultural sectors. The discussions emphasized the centuries-old historical connections between India and Quanzhou, aimed at building stronger future partnerships.

During the visit, Ambassador Doraiswami and Consul General Gince Mattom toured the 7th-century Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou, a landmark symbolizing enduring cultural exchanges between India and China. The temple’s architecture showcases a blend of local and ancient Indian influences, underscoring longstanding people-to-people ties.

Earlier engagements included a meeting with Wu Ken, President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), where Doraiswami expressed appreciation for the institute’s role in promoting sustained dialogue through Track II and Track 1.5 exchanges. These non-governmental and semi-official platforms facilitate informal diplomacy and enhance mutual understanding between the two nations.

Ambassador Doraiswami also held an introductory meeting with China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hua Chunying. Both sides agreed to vigorously pursue the leaders’ vision for stable and mutually beneficial bilateral relations. Discussions covered expanding cooperation in trade, economy, and cultural exchanges. China reiterated its support for India’s presidency of BRICS, signaling a shared interest in multilateral collaboration.
