Over 160 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan have commenced an intensive cybersecurity training program at Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in Gandhinagar. The 12-day Cyber Defender Course (CDC) aims to build practical skills in identifying and countering cyber threats while fostering responsible digital behavior among youth.
The CDC runs from June 18 to 29 and delivers 60 hours of instruction, bringing together cadets from the Senior Division and Senior Wing. The program is organised in collaboration with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) and is led under the supervision of Major General Bimal Monga, Additional Director General of NCC Gujarat Directorate.
Training covers foundational cybersecurity concepts, Linux operating system basics, and the CIA Triad—confidentiality, integrity, and availability—which are key pillars of information security. Cadets receive hands-on exposure to ethical hacking, penetration testing, cyber laws, reporting mechanisms, mobile and smartphone security, cyber fraud prevention, and digital banking safety. Live cyber simulation exercises are also a part of the curriculum to enhance real-world preparedness.
The course emphasizes the development of cyber-aware citizens who can both recognize digital risks and advocate for ethical online conduct. Besides technical training, it introduces participants to the importance of protecting national digital assets and promotes ethical cyber behavior to strengthen the country’s digital security environment.
The program was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Primary, Secondary and Adult Education, Rivaba Jadeja. Rashtriya Raksha University has provided academic infrastructure, training facilities, and logistical support for the course, with oversight from the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bimal Patel. Implementation support is provided by Lieutenant Ruchika Singla, CTO Yash Sharma, and other members of the NCC school staff.
This Cyber Defender Course is part of a broader initiative to expand cybersecurity awareness and preparedness among young people, reflecting growing concerns over digital threats as internet use and online services continue to deepen their role in everyday life.
