The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its probe into a recruitment scam implicating former West Bengal minister Sujit Bose, accusing him of accepting luxury flats as bribes in exchange for illicit municipal job appointments. Bose was arrested after repeatedly evading summons and providing evasive responses during money laundering inquiries.

According to the ED, Bose allegedly benefited directly from proceeds of crime by acquiring several high-value flats. These assets reportedly served as payment for orchestrating appointments in various civic bodies. The agency further claims that Bose amassed significant illegal cash, which was funneled through his business ventures to legitimize the funds.

The investigation traces back to a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case and directions from the Calcutta High Court. It exposed a coordinated scheme involving the manipulation of OMR answer sheets across multiple municipalities, including South Dum Dum, Baranagar, Halisahar, Kanchrapara, New Barrackpore, Kamarhati, Titagarh, and Dum Dum. Efforts to secure appointments affected positions ranging from clerks, teachers, and sweepers to ambulance attendants and drivers.

One company, ABS Infozon Pvt Ltd, led by Ayan Sil, allegedly secured contracts to oversee recruitment procedures. The ED alleges this company doctored merit lists and OMR sheets to favor unqualified candidates in exchange for bribes and other illicit benefits.

During raids linked to the investigation, officials seized approximately Rs 3.45 crore in cash along with incriminating documents and digital evidence. Bose remains in ED custody under court orders as the agency seeks to identify additional political figures involved in this widespread corruption.

  • The recruitment scam spanned multiple municipalities and numerous job categories.
  • Manipulation tactics included tampering with OMR sheets and falsifying merit lists.
  • Luxury apartments received as bribes highlight the scale of corruption.
  • Cash seizures and digital evidence strengthen the ongoing investigation.
